Hello!
As you can see, my Peace Corps travel blog is up and running! The background picture is Gunung Rinjani on the island of Lombok in Indonesia...I am going to have to hunt this baby down! My good friend Julia painted a watercolor of this mountain for my 23rd birthday in January.
It has been a long, emotional journey to get to this point (leaving for my foreign service, not creating the blog!), and I thank you for hanging with me. Please check out the sidebar on the right for information about the title of my blog.
Thus far, all I know of my Peace Corps adventure is the following:
1. I am expected to appear for orientation on April 2nd, 2012 in an unknown city in the US (probably San Francisco).
2. My pre-service orientation, likely in Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia will take place from April 7th to June 13th. This training is threefold: to learn Bahasa Indonesia (literally, "the language of Indonesia"), the Indonesian culture, and how to teach English well!
3. I will be co-teaching English to 10th or 11th graders in an unknown city in East Java, Indonesia from mid-June 2012 to mid-June 2014.
4. I will be living with a host family for a long time, if not the whole time!
I have certainly learned a lot about myself, my desires, trusting God, and patience as I have prepared for this journey. Yet it is with an open heart that I leave for Indonesia in 53 days!
I hope this blog is a means through which we can keep in contact and I can teach you more about what I am learning. Please leave comments and questions frequently!
Wow- Sarah, I am in awe of you. Oh to be 23 again and literally have the world at your feet- I might be there with you. I look forward to following your journey- and we will be in continual prayer for you and the amazing work you will do to serve God. We love you.
